Symonds Yat Rock

This list is not exhaustive and, with over 20 years experience, if there is a particular activity you wish to try please contact us and we will do our best to arrange it. All activities are within a few minutes of the hotel and transport can be arranged.

Water Based

Canoeing and Kayaking
The Symond's Yat Gorge provides Wyedean Canoe and Adventure Centre with the best location in the country for the novice or expert canoeist. Our exclusive facilities on the banks of the Wye comprise of Canadian open canoes and single kayaks, including all the necessary peripheral equipment. The safe, clean waters of the River Wye provide the ideal environment for the complete beginner to develop basic canoe strokes, balance and canoe control, all supervised by our fully qualified Instructors.

White Water
Parts of the River Wye are rapid enough to engage in White Water kayaking, a totally rewarding and exhilarating experience suitable for novice and experts alike.

Raft Building
Rafting is often an initial activity designed to present a situation where 'pulling together' becomes a necessity and so individuals can immediately feel part of a team. The challenge is to design, construct and paddle your team raft across the river to retrieve a vital piece of equipment. It results in lots of fun; wild and creative raft designs and great team spirit.

Voyager Canoes
We have a fleet of 12 seat Voyager Canoes which are a great fun, focusing and can be competitive activity for a larger group these are available under the instruction of our experienced voyager guides. Sprint race competitions relay races and time trails can be set up with this activity.

Land Based

Rock Climbing and Abseiling

The exciting challenge of climbing a rock face and the thrill of abseiling, from part of our 'Yat Rock' Programme. From an initial briefing on safety and rock climbing procedure, you progress under instruction to working in pairs; having the added assurance of our specialist fail-safe equipment. Symonds Yat is well known as an excellent climbing venue and has no shortage of routes to match the requirements of all groups. For those with some climbing experience, our guides can lead and rig more difficult routes and demonstrate the most up to date equipment and manoeuvres.Abseiling is one of our most popular activities and pitches range from 10 to 30m to suit all levels of skill. Both activities take place with the stunning scenery and views over the Symonds Yat Gorge.

Climbing Wall
Designed for wet weather use or an introduction to climbing we have a superb indoor climbing wall with abseiling platform and steel caving ladders. A great activity without the natural exposure that is out on the Symonds Yat Rocks.

The caves and old iron mines of the Forest of Dean present great adventure and exploration of the unknown. They are safe and undaunting and our qualified and experienced leaders will quickly put you at ease in the underground environment. You'll have lots of fun and be inspired and educated with regard to local history and geology.

Ropes Course
The ropes course and initiative exercises are supervised mental, physical and emotional challenges that require a combination of teamwork skills and individual commitment. The course takes you on a problem -solving trip through our woodland, ending with an 80m zip wire - excellent fun and a tremendous sense of achievement.

A popular activity that takes place in our purpose built range where participants are introduced to the equipment and techniques of archery with the competitive edge of target shooting.

Additional Activities
Additional activities that can be arranged are; Mountain Biking through the Forest Of Dean, Clay pigeon shooting for the more adventurous and Hot air ballooning which provides a Unique way of viewing the splendours of the local area.
